TI-26-007 - Kinloss (EGQK) Tower

Instruction ID TI-26-007
Valid 17/05/26 1800z - 2100z
Applicable To Lossiemouth and top down

Introduction

This temporary instruction authorises the activation of Kinloss Tower during the UK Military Staff-Up Event.

RAF Kinloss is a former Royal Air Force station located on the Moray Firth in the north-east of Scotland. The station now operates primarily as an Army barracks; however, the aerodrome infrastructure remains available for limited RAF and military aviation activity, including Agile Combat Employment (ACE) operations.

Aerodrome overview

Kinloss (EGQK) has one runway 08/26 with a length of 2,311m.

The aerodrome lies within the combined Military Aerodrome Traffic Zone (CMATZ) shared with RAF Lossiemouth (EGQS), extending from the surface to 3000 ft AAL. An Aerodrome Traffic Zone (ATZ) is established centred on Kinloss from the surface to 2000 ft AAL.

Procedures

Altimeter Setting Procedures

Lossiemouth and Kinloss operate using a common “clutch” QFE setting for all operations conducted within the CMATZ, including associated instrument procedures and radar patterns.

  • When Lossiemouth is active, the clutch QFE shall be based on the observed barometric pressure for the touchdown zone elevation (TDZE) of the active runway at Lossiemouth.

  • When Lossiemouth is closed, the Kinloss aerodrome QFE shall be used.

Published Decision Height (DH) and Minimum Descent Height (MDH) values for Kinloss remain applicable as published procedure minima. Use of the clutch QFE will not result in indicated altitudes below the promulgated physical minima.

VFR Departures from Runway 26

Aircraft conducting VFR departures from Runway 26 shall:

  • Maintain runway track until passing 1000 ft QFE.

  • Commence turns only after reaching 1000 ft QFE unless otherwise instructed by ATC.
