ADC | Norwich (EGSH)¶
Apron/Taxiway Restrictions¶
Stands 4, 5 and 6 are push-pull stands and are the only stands capable of accommodating Code C and larger aircraft.
Any aircraft larger than an E195 must use Taxiway C to enter the runway. Aircraft larger than an E75S must not use Taxiway D past Holding Point T.
Stand 22 on the Western Apron is a taxi-through helicopter stand.
Stands 20 and 21 on the Western Apron are only for use by air ambulances.
The Eastern and Saxon Aprons are uncontrolled. Aircraft leaving the Saxon Apron are typically towed to P.
IFR Departures¶
There are no SIDs from Norwich. All IFR departures will be cleared to leave controlled airspace and assigned a squawk code allocated by UKCP, with initial climb issued according to the table below. ADC will notify RAD when traffic requests start so that RAD may request joining clearance from the receiving sector.
All departures are subject to release by RAD, who must obtain a joining clearance from Area Control prior to departure.
Direction | Route | ATS Route | Initial Flight Level | Joining Clearance |
---|---|---|---|---|
Northeast | BODSO | Y70 | FL180 | AC North Sea |
Northeast | MOLIX | L17 | FL170 | (Note 1) |
North (EGPX FIR) | NALAX | L46/L602 | FL170 | Swanwick Mil (Note 3) |
North (Manchester TMA) | OTBED (Note 2) | L602 | FL150 | |
Southwest | BANEM | P155/Y6 | FL110 | TC East |
Southwest | BKY | T999/M183 | FL180 | TC East |
Notes
Note 1: Departures will join the ATS route network at the Amsterdam FIR boundary. Norwich Radar should contact London Information, who will coordinate with Amsterdam Radar and obtain a clearance to join controlled airspace. In the absence of London Information, Norwich Radar will obtain the clearance from Amsterdam. Norwich APC must inform Swanwick Military (or AC North Sea in their absence) of the clearance obtained from Amsterdam.
Note 2: ADC shall prenote Norwich RAD on pushback or startup with an estimated departure time. Should this change by more than 5 minutes, RAD must be informed who shall inform PC Northeast.
Note 3: When Swanwick Military is offline, this clearance should be obtained from PC Northeast.
All IFR Departure instructions shall be given in the following format:
Radiotelephony
[Callsign], after departure runway [number], left/right turn direct [initial waypoint], climb [initial FL]. Squawk [assigned Squawk].
Note
Since IFR departures transit Class G (uncontrolled) airspace on leaving the Norwich CTA, the phrase "Cleared to [destination]" shall be omitted from departure instructions.
Departure releases¶
All IFR departures are subject to release by RAD. RAD will provide any restrictions required to ensure separation and to achieve any time restrictions imposed by Area sectors.
Notwithstanding that it is the responsibility of RAD to provide releases for IFR traffic that ensure separation between departing aircraft (see Approach Control – Outbound Procedures), ADC shall additionally apply a minimum departure interval of 2 minutes and further departure separation in accordance with the UK Harmonised Speed Table (see notes below).
Group 4 | Group 3 | Group 2 | Group 1 |
---|---|---|---|
All jet aircraft except: - Those in Group 3 - Concorde - Military fast jets |

Speed Separation Notes
- The basic separation interval (2 minutes) is applied between types in the same group (or where the following aircraft is one group slower)
- An additional 1 minute is added for each successive group when the following aircraft is faster (where the resulting timed interval is excessive, the controller may coordinate an early release)
- The basic interval may be reduced by 1 minute when the following aircraft is two or more groups slower (however, the controller must account for wake turbulence separation)
- Types not in the speed table (and the subsequent aircraft) are subject to release from the appropriate radar controller.
Departure Hand-off Order¶
In the absence of APC, departures are to be transferred in accordance with the following priority order (from top to bottom):
Coordination Name | Position Logon | Controller Identifier | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
AC North Sea | LON_NE_CTR | LNE | 128.130 |
AC North | LON_N_CTR | LN | 133.705 |
AC Bandbox | LON_CTR | L | 127.830 |
IFR Arrivals¶
IFR arrivals will be transferred to ADC established on the final approach track. Traffic performing an approach other than ILS (on 27) or NDB (on 09) will be prenoted to ADC before establishing on the final approach track.
