APC | Norwich (EGSH)¶
Airspace¶
Norwich APC is responsible for the Norwich CTR and CTA. The airspace is Class D and extends to 4000 ft.
Radar Splits¶
The DIR position may be opened with the agreement of RAD. DIR shall handle all IFR inbounds from the point of transfer from London/Swanwick Military stations. RAD shall remain responsible for all other traffic and executive coordination with other stations.
RAD is responsible for notifying AC North Sea, Swanwick Military, TC East, and TC North East when DIR opens – specifying that inbound IFR traffic is to be handed directly to the DIR frequency.
Inbound Procedures¶
The following standard arrival routes exist for Norwich traffic. Area Control will pre-note RAD with the callsign, SSR code, and ETA.

Note
Traffic shall be transferred to DIR at the agreed level, 10 NM in trail constant or increasing between successive inbounds on the same or similar route. Traffic will be in receipt of a Deconfliction Service prior to transfer, unless otherwise coordinated.
IFR arrivals shall be transferred to ADC established on the final approach track. Traffic performing an approach other than ILS (on 27) or NDB (on 09) shall be prenoted to ADC before establishing on the final approach track.IFR arrivals will be transferred to ADC established on the final approach track. Outbound Procedures¶
RAD is responsible for obtaining a joining clearance from the relevant Area sector prior to allowing IFR aircraft to depart. RAD shall contact the receiving sector stating the callsign, SSR code, and expected departure time (EDT).
All departures are transferred to RAD who shall provide a deconfliction service outside of controlled airspace. RAD shall coordinate a handover to Swanwick Military.
In the absence of Swanwick Military, AC North Sea shall provide a deconfliction service to all traffic except those joining at BANEM. In the absence of Swanwick Military, traffic joining at BANEM should receive deconfliction service from RAD until handover to TC East. RAD shall ensure that all traffic transferred shall have a minimum radar spacing of 5 NM, constant or increasing.
Outbounds via L602
will be coordinated between RAD, Swanwick Mil and PC Northeast. Norwich shall contact PC NE in addition to Swanwick Military to notify them of the EDT of the relevant flight.
Should this EDT change, RAD must notify PC NE. Swanwick Military will initially work outbound traffic and will also request a clearance to join the ATS route network from PC NE. In the absence of Swanwick, Norwich APC will request a joining clearance from PC NE.
UK Flight Information Services¶
RAD is a notified LARS position and can provide services to aircraft operating within 30 NM of the ATZ, outside of controlled airspace. This range can be extended to provide services to helicopters operating in the Anglia Radar offshore area.
Helicopter Operations¶
Responsibility¶
VATSIMism
In the real-world, Anglia Radar covers all offshore operations in the North Sea. However on VATSIM, Anglia Radar is not simulated. As such, Norwich and Humberside may both provide UK FIS to traffic operating within the Southern North Sea.
Helicopter Main Routing Indicators¶
Several Helicopter Main Routing Indicators (HMRI) exist for traffic operating in the North Sea. All HMRIs begin or terminate at either IRDUK, INDEV, KUSON, KOPAD and LUVOR (from the east) and RIKPU, SORER, BAGPA and LAGER (from the west).
Outbound traffic (land to sea) should operate at 2000 ft or 3000 ft. Inbound traffic (sea to land) should operate at 1500 ft or 2500 ft. Traffic above the transition altitude (3000 ft) should conform to the semi-circular rule.
Traffic on the HMRIs routing under EGD323D, EGD323E, EGD323K or the Lakenheath ATA are restricted to FL40 unless otherwise coordinated.
Outbound Traffic¶
Helicopters may elect to depart IFR or VFR with clearance to the destination, specifying the HMRI, Departure Routing, flight rules, initial altitude/altitude restriction, and squawk.
Radiotelephony
NHZ23J cleared to Indefatigable, via route 1, after departure right turn on track SORER, climb to altitude 3000 feet, squawk 4250.
Light helicopters are not required to use the runway to depart, except from the Saxon Apron.
Traffic should be transferred to Norwich Radar as normal.
Inbound traffic¶
IFR Helicopters inbound from the HMRIs will be vectored from the HMRIs terminating fix to the final approach track. VFR traffic will be issued an appropriate clearance to enter CAS and transferred to Norwich Tower as usual.
