GEN | Prestwick (EGPK)¶
ATC Positions¶
Callsign | Position Logon | Controller Identifier | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
Prestwick Information | EGPK_ATIS | ATIS | 121.130 |

INT is the principal radar controller, and must be open before FIN. When INT and FIN operate split the INT controller is responsible for executive coordination, initial sequencing of IFR inbounds, control where necessary of IFR outbounds, and VFR traffic and overflights; the FIN controller is responsible for the provision of final radar sequencing for IFR inbounds.
VATSIMism
When Prestwick ATC is closed, it is covered top-down in the following priority order:
Coordination Name | Position Logon | Controller Identifier | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
Galloway | STC_W_CTR | STW | 124.825 |
Scottish TMA | STC_CTR | ST | 126.300 |

Altimeter Setting Procedures¶
All departing, arriving and transit aircraft shall operate on the Prestwick QNH, including aircraft intending to remain within the visual circuit.
The Transition Altitude is 6000 ft as Prestwick is situated within the Scottish TMA.
The Transition Level and Scottish TMA Minimum Stack Level (MSL) are derived from the Glasgow QNH in accordance with MATS Part 1. QNH 1013 hPa is considered ‘low pressure’, in line with MATS Part 1.
Info
From here on, unless otherwise specified, vertical references measured in feet are to be assumed as altitudes AMSL.
Runways and Instrument Approach Procedures¶
When the tailwind component is less than 5 knots and then runway is dry, the preferential runway is Runway 30.
CAT I ILS approaches are available to both Runway 12 and Runway 30 (I-PP/I-KK - 110.30 MHz
).
RNP, NDB/DME (PIK - 355.0 kHz
) and surveillance radar approaches are available to Runway 12, Runway 20 and Runway 30.
There are no instrument approaches available to Runway 02.
VFR Procedures¶
Visual circuits operating from Runway 02/20 shall be to the east of the aerodrome and visual circuits operating from Runway 12/30 shall be to the north of the aerodrome. Pilots should be aware of rising ground to the northeast of the aerodrome when operating in the visual circuit.
Two entry/exit lanes, both 3 NM wide, are established:
- A lane running from Irvine Harbour (at the northern CTR boundary) southeast along the coast to Barassie then along the railway line to the point at which it joins the ATZ, and
- A lane running from Doonfoot (at the southern CTR boundary) northeast along the coast to the point at which it joins the ATZ.
VFR flights shall typically be cleared via the most appropriate lane for the direction of flight, not above 3000 ft. This generally provides for the most effective integration of VFR traffic however controllers may also provide clearance on track an appropriate VRP or as they otherwise see fit depending on the overall traffic situation.
GMC shall obtain clearance for outbound VFR flights from INT, and AIR shall obtain a release prior to departure. Traffic shall be transferred to INT once clear of the ATZ.
INT shall coordinate inbound traffic with AIR, agreeing if necessary a clearance limit, with transfer to the AIR frequency prior to the flight entering the ATZ and with the aerodrome in sight.

Local SSR Code Procedures¶
Circuit traffic shall squawk 7010
.
APC is assigned the local SSR code range 4501-4517
. The Prestwick conspicuity squawk is 4520
, this code shall be used for traffic operating under a Basic Service which does not require identification.
