Conditional Clearances¶
Conditional runway line-up and crossing instructions are not permitted at Aberdeen.
IFR Departure Clearances¶
There are no SIDs at Aberdeen. All departures receive an ATS route clearance on stand. The initial climb is FL110 for all departures, except those via the Y904 (FL80) and for those with a lower RFL. The initial climb is to be issued with the clearance.
Radiotelephony
SHT19S cleared to London Heathrow via P600, climb FL110, squawk 5376.
When the P18 is reserved by Swanwick Mil (vRAF), aircraft may still route along it and receive UK FIS from ScAC. When the P18 is unavailable (as coordinated by Swanwick Mil), aircraft generally route via the P600 (SW), except if to EGNT/NV.
Radiotelephony
EZE39F cleared to leave controlled airspace on track BALID, climb FL110, squawk 2745.
Route | Initial Fix | Initial Climb |
---|---|---|
P600 (SW) | GLESK | FL110 |
Class G (Via FRA) | ODMIX | |
Class G (Via FRA) | RIVOT | |
Via MADAD | BALID | |
P600 (NE) | LESNI | |
Y904 | SMOKI | FL80 |
Y905 | PETOX | FL110 |
Departure Releases¶
AIR shall obtain a release from INT for all departures. AIR will specify when the RFL is lower than FL110 (or FL80 via Y904). INT will specify the initial fix or heading to be passed as an after departure instruction and any climb restrictions below the standard initial climb.
AIR shall pass the after departure instructions and receive a correct read back before issuing take-off clearance.
Radiotelephony
SHT19S, after departure, right turn direct to GLESK.
It is the responsibility of INT to provide releases for IFR traffic that ensure separation between departing aircraft (see Approach Control - Outbound Procedures). In the absence of a controller providing radar services, aircraft may depart with a 2-minute departure interval, reduced to 1-minute when the initial route diverges by 45° or greater.
ADC shall additionally apply departure separation in accordance with the UK Harmonised Speed Table. This speed table is published below.
Group 4 | Group 3 | Group 2 | Group 1 |
---|---|---|---|
All jet aircraft except: - Those in Group 3 - Concorde - Military fast jets |

Speed Separation Notes
- The basic separation interval (2 minutes) is applied between types in the same group (or where the following aircraft is one group slower)
- An additional 1 minute is added for each successive group when the following aircraft is faster (where the resulting timed interval is excessive, the controller may coordinate an early release)
- The basic interval may be reduced by 1 minute when the following aircraft is two or more groups slower (however, the controller must account for wake turbulence separation)
- Types not in the speed table (and the subsequent aircraft) are subject to release from the appropriate radar controller.
Wake turbulence separation is to be applied in accordance with MATS Part 1 (CAP 493).
Departure Hand-off Order¶
All departures are to be transferred to INT once aerodrome conflictions are resolved, unless otherwise notified by APC.
In the absence of INT, IFR departures are to be transferred in accordance with the following priority (from top to bottom):
Callsign | Position Logon | Controller Identifier | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
South | SCO_S_CTR | SS | 134.775 |
East | SCO_E_CTR | SE | 121.325 |
Bandbox | SCO_CTR | S | 135.530 |
Note
The radiotelephony callsign is "Scottish Control" for all the above area control positions.
