ADC | Sumburgh (EGPB)

IFR Departure Clearances

There are no SIDs at Sumburgh and the only route that remains within controlled airspace is southbound via Y905. All departures via Y905 shall be issued a standard ATS route network clearance on stand with an initial climb to FL90 or the RFL (if lower). The initial climb (either FL90 or RFL) is to be issued with the clearance.

Radiotelephony

LOG81 cleared to Aberdeen via Y905, climb FL90, squawk 5376.

Traffic routing other than via Y905 shall be cleared to leave controlled airspace on a direct track to the first filed fix. The initial climb shall be FL90 or the RFL (if lower). Traffic leaving controlled airspace shall be prenoted to RAD so that they may coordinate with the next radar unit, which may not be a UK unit.

Radiotelephony

LOG273 cleared to leave controlled airspace on track PEPIN, climb FL90, squawk 2745.

Departure Releases

AIR shall obtain a release from RAD for all departures. AIR shall specify if the RFL is lower than FL90. RAD will specify the initial fix or heading to be passed as an after departure instruction and any climb restrictions below the standard initial climb.

AIR shall pass the after departure instructions and receive a correct read back before issuing take-off clearance:

Radiotelephony

LOG81, after departure, turn right direct MOCHA.

It is the responsibility of RAD to provide releases for IFR traffic that ensure separation between departing aircraft (see Approach Control - Outbound Procedures).

Departure Separation without APC

In the absence of a controller providing radar services, aircraft may depart with a 2-minute departure interval, reduced to 1-minute when the initial route diverges by 45° or greater.

ADC shall apply departure separation in accordance with the UK Harmonised Speed Table, when APC (or top-down) is offline. This speed table is published below.

Speed Separation Notes

  1. The basic separation interval (2 minutes) is applied between types in the same group (or where the following aircraft is one group slower)
  2. An additional 1 minute is added for each successive group when the following aircraft is faster (where the resulting timed interval is excessive, the controller may coordinate an early release)
  3. The basic interval may be reduced by 1 minute when the following aircraft is two or more groups slower (however, the controller must account for wake turbulence separation)
  4. Types not in the speed table (and the subsequent aircraft) are subject to release from the appropriate radar controller.

Departure Hand-off Order

All departures are to be transferred to RAD (131.300) once aerodrome conflictions are resolved, unless otherwise notified by APC.

In the absence of RAD, IFR departures are to be transferred in accordance with the following sequence:

Callsign Position Logon Controller Identifier Frequency
North SCO_N_CTR SN 129.225
East SCO_E_CTR SE 121.325
Bandbox SCO_CTR S 135.530

Note

The radiotelephony callsign is Scottish Control for all the above area control positions.
