ADC | Belfast (EGAA & EGAC)¶
Apron/Taxiway Restrictions¶
Belfast Aldergrove (EGAA)¶
Aircraft may be requested to push to the Tug Points (TP) depicted on the UK AIP Ground Movement/Parking Chart. Due to apron pushback procedures involving the Tug Points on Taxiway Lima, prior permission is required from ATC for aircraft to vacate Runway 07/25 at Taxiway Bravo.
Aircraft of Boeing 737/Airbus A319 size or greater are not permitted to carry out 180° turns after landing on Runway 17, aircraft should continue to the Runway 35 turning circle.
IFR arrivals from Runway 25 expecting the terminal should automatically vacate right onto Runway 35 and taxi to C2, until onward clearance is issued.
A small Army Air Corps military base is situated to the south of Runway 25. No specific procedures are documented in this briefing related to the base, however controllers should be aware that these taxiways and aprons are not detailed in the charts.
Belfast City (EGAC)¶
No significant ground restrictions exist.
IFR Departures¶
Neither Belfast Aldergrove nor Belfast/City have standard instrument departures. Traffic joining the ATS route network shall route via the following standard routings:
Departing To | Via | Route |
---|---|---|
SE(RNAV 1) | Q38 (Below FL285) | LISBO/DUFFY - PEPOD - VAKPO - MAKUX - SOSIM |
SE(RNAV 1) | Q39 (Above FL285) | LISBO/DUFFY - RINGA - BABGU - ETIGA - TIMIS - INKOB |
SE(RNAV 5) | L603/L15 (FL150+) | LISBO/DUFFY - PEPOD - MAKUX |
SE(RNAV 5) | L603/L15 (FL90-FL140) | LISBO/DUFFY - PEPOD - IOM |
SE(RNAV 5) | L10 (FL80-) | LISBO/DUFFY - RINGA - SLYDA - IOM |
S | P620 | LISBO/DUFFY - NUMPI - NIMAT |
N | P600 | BLACA - TRN (or TUNSO if inbound to EGPH) |
Notes
- VATSIM traffic is assumed RNAV 1 capable unless otherwise notified by the pilot.
- Where the initial routing point is listed as LISBO/DUFFY traffic shall route to LISBO for Belfast Aldergrove and DUFFY for Belfast City.
- Whilst traffic is flight-planned via LISBO/DUFFY, in practice, they are generally routed to either BLACA/NUMPI/RINGA/PEPOD or assigned a heading to fly after departure.
- Traffic from Belfast Aldergrove is passed an initial climb to altitude 5000 feet with the initial ATC clearance. Traffic from Belfast City is passed an initial climb to altitude 3000 feet.
Traffic joining the ATS route network shall have the initial ATC clearance passed in the format:
"[Callsign] cleared to Destination via POINT, climb to altitude 3000/5000 feet squawk XXXX", where ‘POINT’ is the first point on their flight plan that is not LISBO / DUFFY (e.g. RINGA, PEPOD, NUMPI)
Radiotelephony
EZY840 cleared to London Gatwick via RINGA, climb to altitude 5000 feet, squawk 4513.
IFR flights routing outside controlled airspace are to be given the most direct route possible, coordinating with AA INT and en-route or adjacent units as necessary. Clearance shall be to leave controlled airspace on track the first flight-planned fix outside of controlled airspace with initial climb as per ATS route network traffic.
Radiotelephony
GEXPL cleared to leave controlled airspace on track Machrihanish (MAC), climb to altitude 5000 feet, squawk 7256.
Following release from AA INT or the appropriate top down controller, aircraft shall be passed the instruction to fly standard noise abatement followed by the after departure instructions passed in the release (either a turn on track or a heading to fly) including any amended initial climb. In the absence of a controller providing radar services aircraft should be instructed to turn on track BLACA/NUMPI/RINGA/PEPOD after noise abatement.
Radiotelephony
SHT5V after departure Runway 04, standard noise abatement, then right turn on track RINGA, climb to altitude 4000ft.
Departure Releases¶
All IFR/SVFR departures from both Belfast Aldergrove and Belfast City are subject to release from AA INT.
VFR departures from Belfast Aldergrove are free-flow.
VFR departures from Belfast City are subject to release from AC INT. Additionally, any Belfast City VFR traffic wishing to enter the Belfast CTR or TMA shall be subject to a release from AA INT which AC INT will obtain.
It is the responsibility of AA INT to provide releases for IFR traffic that ensure separation between departing aircraft (see APC – Outbound Procedures).
Departure Separation without APC¶
In the absence of a controller providing radar services, aircraft may depart with a 2-minute departure interval.
ADC shall apply departure separation in accordance with the UK Harmonised Speed Table, when APC (or top-down) is offline.
Group 4 | Group 3 | Group 2 | Group 1 |
---|---|---|---|
All jet aircraft except: - Those in Group 3 - Concorde - Military fast jets |
BAE146/Avro RJ CL35/CL60 CRJ1/2/7/9/X B328/J328 D8D E135/145 E50P/55P P180 SB20 Citations except: C56X/680/68A/700/750 |

BN2P/T C208 DA62 DHC6 E110 |
Speed Separation Notes
- The basic separation interval (2 minutes) is applied between types in the same group (or where the following aircraft is one group slower)
- An additional 1 minute is added for each successive group when the following aircraft is faster (where the resulting timed interval is excessive, the controller may coordinate an early release)
- The basic interval may be reduced by 1 minute when the following aircraft is two or more groups slower (however, the controller must account for wake turbulence separation)
- Types not in the speed table (and the subsequent aircraft) are subject to release from the appropriate radar controller.
Departure Hand-off Order¶
All IFR departures from both Belfast Aldergrove and Belfast City are to be transferred to AA INT on 133.125
once aerodrome conflictions are resolved.
VFR departures are to be transferred to the respective aerodrome’s INT controller.
In the absence of AA INT, IFR departures are to be transferred in accordance with the following sequence:
Coordination Name | Position Logon | Controller Identifier | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
Antrim | STC_A_CTR | STA | 123.775 |
Rathlin | SCO_R_CTR | SR | 129.100 |
West | SCO_W_CTR | SW | 132.730 |
West-Deancross | SCO_WD_CTR | SWD | 133.875 |
Bandbox | SCO_CTR | S | 135.530 |
Note
The radiotelephony callsign is "Scottish Control" for all the above area control positions.
In the absence of any of these positions, Belfast City (EGAC) departures should be transferred to AC INT on 130.850
.
